Welding with Hide and contour inside a frame

I just played with hide and contour and this is how my Gypsy behaves. Does yours behave the same way?
I tried welding the word fun and then took a frame and welded it to it and previewed. The whole word showed up and then I hid the outer frame and here are the results in steps. Cartridge used GW and GF

the whole weld shows even hide and contour.


So next I tried first hiding and then welding and depending on the way I welded (grouping order) got 2 results but both messed up as in solid weld. Pictures below
